WEBINAR: Simulating Hospital Equipment for Structural Integrity & Patient Ergonomics

Patient welfare is directly associated with the structural integrity of hospital equipment such as hospital beds, surgical tables, stretchers and wheelchairs. Such equipment has to be subjected to drop tests and fatigue life tests to assess the structural integrity. An MRI system for instance has to be regulated for dampening mechanical vibrations. All critical medical instrumentation such as life sustaining ventilators, defibrillators would require these tests to comply with the respective standards. Advanced studies are focusing on large deformations, impact and stress analysis for hospital equipment. Hospital mattresses being specially developed to alleviate pressure ulcers can be simulated for stress distribution on the interface and optimal support shape design, the EVA foam material used for such mattresses is highly nonlinear and requires advanced modeling. Simulations can be deployed to investigate the contact pressure between a foam mattress and the human body, such study would involve advanced modelling of human tissue material as well. In addition to the structural integrity, these systems have to be simulated for better ergonomics too.
